Not only did I learn a great deal about the heretofore largely ingored and understudied Ottoman arch itectural patrimony in what was for centuries the virtual heartland of the polity, I likewise greatly benefited from the opportunity of begin exposed to the attention which in recent years the Helleniz Ministry of Culture's Archeological Service has lavished on protecting and restoring the architectural remanis of the Ottoman past.
